Frequently Asked Questions

Where will the A.O.G. Sports Complex be located?

The proposed A.O.G. Sports, Entertainment & Leadership Complex will be located at the Lewis Powell Athletic Park redevelopment site in Pensacola, Florida.

The project envisions transforming the existing athletic park into a modern, multi-purpose sports and entertainment destination through a proposed public-private partnership with Escambia County.

The redevelopment will preserve the property's purpose as a community athletic destination while introducing expanded facilities, improved infrastructure, and new opportunities for recreation, education, entertainment, and sports tourism.

The goal is to create a destination that benefits Pensacola residents while attracting visitors, athletes, families, and sporting organizations from throughout the region and beyond.

How large is the proposed development?

The proposed redevelopment encompasses approximately 21 to 53 acres, depending on the final property boundaries, land availability, and approved master plan.

This acreage would allow the development team to create a comprehensive sports and entertainment campus with multiple athletic venues, indoor facilities, museum space, and supporting infrastructure.

The proposed development could include:

  • Baseball stadium.

  • Softball stadium.

  • Soccer fields and stadium facilities.

  • Indoor basketball and volleyball arena.

  • Additional indoor tournament courts.

  • Sports performance and training center.

  • A.O.G. Sports, Entertainment & Leadership Hall of Fame Museum.

  • Event and entertainment facilities.

  • Restaurant and concessions.

  • Parking, pedestrian walkways, and supporting amenities.

The final acreage and facility layout will be determined through property evaluations, engineering, site planning, and development approvals.

Who is developing the project?

The project is being spearheaded by IACCA, Inc. (International Association of Christian Collegiate Athletes), a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Christian student-athletes through scholarships, educational opportunities, athletic development, and community outreach.

IACCA intends to lead the proposed redevelopment initiative and pursue a public-private partnership with Escambia County to revitalize Lewis Powell Athletic Park.

The John Melvin Institute of Sports Science (JMISS) is expected to provide commercial facility management, athletic programming, tournament operations, sports development, and facility management services through an appropriate management or operating agreement.

The development team also anticipates working with:

  • Escambia County government.

  • Corporate sponsors and naming-rights partners.

  • Private investors and development partners.

  • Professional sports organizations.

  • Educational institutions.

  • Local businesses and community organizations.

  • Foundations and philanthropic organizations.

The project will combine nonprofit community initiatives with professional sports and commercial event operations to create a sustainable long-term development model.

What facilities will be included?

The proposed master plan is designed to incorporate multiple athletic, educational, entertainment, and community facilities within one coordinated campus.

Proposed athletic facilities:

  • Baseball Stadium: A modern baseball venue for youth, travel team, collegiate, and competitive baseball, including tournaments, showcases, and player development.

  • Softball Stadium: A dedicated softball venue for youth, travel team, and competitive softball.

  • Soccer Complex: Soccer fields and supporting facilities for youth leagues, competitions, and tournaments.

  • Indoor Sports Arena: A multi-purpose facility for basketball, volleyball, sporting events, and entertainment.

  • Additional Indoor Courts: Multiple basketball and volleyball courts designed to host tournaments, leagues, camps, and showcases.

  • Athletic Performance Center: Strength training, conditioning, sports science, and athlete development facilities.

Proposed museum, entertainment, and community facilities:

  • A.O.G. Sports, Entertainment & Leadership Hall of Fame Museum: A destination celebrating legendary athletes, coaches, entertainers, Christian leaders, and individuals who have made significant contributions to society.

  • Event and Entertainment Center: A venue for concerts, conferences, banquets, conventions, and community events.

  • Kingdom Sports Grill: A restaurant and gathering destination for athletes, families, visitors, and guests.

  • Educational and Leadership Facilities: Classrooms, media spaces, youth development programs, and leadership training.

  • Community Recreation Areas: Spaces designed to encourage family participation, community engagement, and recreational activities.

The final facility mix will depend on the approved master plan, available acreage, funding, and development phases.

When is construction expected to begin?

Construction is anticipated to begin following the completion of the necessary property arrangements, public-private partnership negotiations, feasibility studies, architectural and engineering plans, permitting, and financing.

IACCA is pursuing a redevelopment partnership with Escambia County that would allow the organization and its development partners to invest in the property's infrastructure, athletic facilities, and long-term improvements.

The development team is also pursuing corporate sponsorships, naming-rights agreements, private investment, grants, and philanthropic support to help finance the project.

Construction is expected to occur in phases, allowing priority facilities and infrastructure to be developed as funding and approvals become available.

Specific construction dates will be announced once the necessary agreements and approvals are secured.

When is the anticipated opening?

The A.O.G. Sports Complex is envisioned as a phased redevelopment project, with individual facilities potentially opening as they are completed and approved for operation.

Rather than waiting for the entire campus to be completed, the phased approach could allow portions of the complex to begin serving the community while additional facilities are under development.

The ultimate objective is to establish Lewis Powell Athletic Park as a fully revitalized sports and entertainment destination for Pensacola and Northwest Florida.

Opening dates will be determined following completion of the development agreement, financing, construction planning, and permitting.

How will the community benefit?

The redevelopment of Lewis Powell Athletic Park represents an opportunity to create a lasting community asset while generating meaningful economic and social benefits for Escambia County.

The proposed development is intended to deliver benefits in several important areas:

Youth Baseball Initiative

IACCA also plans to pursue a partnership with Major League Baseball to establish an inner-city youth baseball initiative focused on introducing underprivileged and lower-income children to the game, providing instruction, and creating pathways for athletic development.

The ultimate goal is to create more than a sports complex. It is to create an environment where young people can develop their talents, discover opportunities, and become productive leaders in their communities.

Will the facility host public tournaments and events?

Absolutely. Hosting public sporting events, tournaments, and entertainment activities will be a central component of the proposed development.

The complex is envisioned as a regional destination capable of hosting:

  • Youth baseball and softball tournaments.

  • Travel baseball and softball competitions.

  • Basketball and volleyball tournaments.

  • Youth and competitive soccer events.

  • Collegiate athletic competitions.

  • Athletic showcases and recruiting events.

  • Sports camps and instructional clinics.

  • Concerts and live entertainment.

  • Community festivals and celebrations.

  • Leadership conferences and educational programs.

  • A.O.G. Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

  • Corporate events, banquets, and private gatherings.

The goal is to attract events from throughout Florida and neighboring states, while creating opportunities to host larger regional and national competitions.

The facilities will also be available for local organizations, schools, athletic associations, and community groups through appropriate scheduling and rental arrangements.

How can businesses become sponsors?

Businesses and corporations will have an opportunity to become founding partners and help finance the development of the A.O.G. Sports, Entertainment & Leadership Complex.

The project will offer a comprehensive corporate sponsorship and naming-rights program designed to accommodate national corporations, regional businesses, local companies, foundations, and individual supporters.
